MÜLLER SAFETY EMERGENCY ROLLER CONTAINER

The tool for recovering conspicuous lithium batteries

The roller container has a waterproof transport compartment. Underneath is a large drawer for storing accessories such as battery fire bags, extended PPE, bags of dry extinguishing agent and power tools. Damaged energy storage devices can be separated in the container and, in the event of a spontaneous reaction, extinguished with dry extinguishing agents such as Extover® or the container can be flooded with extinguishing water.

The emergency roller containers were developed in response to a request from a hospital fire brigade. The fire brigade needed a mobile unit for use in incidents involving reactive or damaged batteries in its area of responsibility, which included wards, technical building sections and administrative buildings. These include battery-powered medical devices, smartphones, e-scooters, e-bikes, e-forklifts and other electrical devices with built-in batteries located on the premises.

The Müller Safety emergency roller container, built in accordance with the German AGBF recommendations, was used as the basis. In the lower part of the container there is a large drawer for storing accessories such as battery fire bags, extended PPE, bags of dry extinguishing agent and power tools. The actual transport and storage area for reactive batteries is docked on top of this. If there is an incident involving reactive batteries on the hospital grounds, the factory fire brigade employees have direct access to the roller containers. These are pre-planned and set up at strategically sensible points on the premises.

Interest from municipal fire brigades and factory fire brigades

The emergency roller container has also attracted interest from municipal fire departments and other plant fire departments that need a compact solution for handling reactive lithium batteries. Potential locations mentioned include retirement homes, hospitals, administrative buildings and industrial plants. In short, all facilities and businesses that work with lithium batteries. The roller containers can be integrated into existing logistics concepts and, thanks to their design in accordance with the German AGBF recommendations, fit seamlessly into existing infrastructure.

Rapid deployment in the event of an incident enables swift evacuation of the damaged goods.

The roller container, with internal dimensions of 110.9 cm x 42 cm x 77.8 cm (L x H x W), holds the defective lithium batteries. Two dome flaps attached to the top of the container can be opened to the sides. After loading, the flaps are closed and the trolley with the damaged goods is taken outside via a short route. A pressure relief valve with a filter in the dome flap ensures that no excess pressure builds up inside the container. If the situation allows, the battery can be packed in a fire bag beforehand. Another option available as an accessory is the metal tray stored inside the container, which can be removed from the trolley and used as an open container to cool batteries. The interior dimensions allow objects up to the size of an e-scooter to be loaded.

A Storz D connection attached to the roll container allows the entire interior to be flooded to cool the damaged goods.

The contents of the drawer can be customised. We offer special equipment kits and extended PPE, which can be used with the roll container as an option. We work with a leading manufacturer of so-called battery fire bags and can therefore offer a complete concept for these types of applications.

As a side effect, smaller pressurised gas cylinders that have heated up can be cooled in the roll container. To do this, the container has to be set up with open dome flaps, loaded with the gas cylinders and flooded with water.
